Ruby in Zoisite — known in the gem trade as Anyolite — was first documented near Longido, Tanzania in 1954, where deposits of deep red ruby were found naturally intergrown with green zoisite and black hornblende. Its discovery introduced one of the few gemstones in which two distinct minerals share a single uncut form (Schumann, W., Gemstones of the World, Sterling Publishing, 2009).
